What FCL and LCL mean
Full Container Load gives one shipper the use of a container, even when it is not filled completely. Less than Container Load places compatible consignments from multiple shippers into shared container space.
The labels describe how capacity is used, not which option is automatically cheaper or faster for every shipment.
Look beyond the freight rate
LCL can suit smaller volumes, but consolidation and deconsolidation add handling stages. FCL may reduce handling and offer more control over loading, yet it also commits to full-container costs and equipment planning.
Compare origin charges, destination charges, inland transport, handling sensitivity and the delivery plan alongside the headline ocean rate.
Make the decision with complete cargo data
Accurate cubic volume, gross weight, package count, stackability and dimensions help a forwarder compare options. Cargo value, urgency and susceptibility to handling should also be considered.
