International cargo can pass through warehouses, terminals, vehicles and border inspections. Packaging should account for lifting, vibration, stacking, moisture and the planned transport mode.
Crates, pallets and cartons should be suitable for the cargo and clearly marked without exposing unnecessary sensitive information.
Measure and describe accurately
Quotes and bookings depend on dimensions, weight and package count. Measure after final packing, and use a precise commercial description rather than vague terms such as parts or samples.
For machinery or non-standard cargo, drawings, lifting points and centre-of-gravity information can be important.
Prepare the document set
Commercial and packing information should agree. Confirm who will act as exporter and importer, which party provides customs data, and whether licences, certificates or product controls may apply.
